When do you salt your pasta water?

Do you salt your water at the start or after it starts boiling? Do you really make it taste like the sea, as many claim to do (that's a lot of salt!)? Let's not even get started on the oil debate!

  • Personally, I salt my pasta water as soon as it comes to a boil.  I generously salt the water, as that is the only time to really flavor the pasta.  You can really tell the difference in the taste and texture of your pasta when you forget to salt the water.
